Global Communication Competency
In the summer of 2019 I took a class in La Salle University of Bogota Colombia with Dr. Rafael Gomez. The class that I took was “Global Communication Competency”, this class was very interesting because we got to know the connection between culture and language and how important is it to society.
Culture and language is one of the most important characteristics of a person because it's what makes everyone different and unique. As we know, there are many different cultures, languages and believes in the world, this is what separates groups from each other. But it is also what connects the world. As we learned in the class, communication works for everyone and is one of the most important things for humans. This class was very important because I had to make a project about a culture that didn’t speak Spanish. My project was about an Afrocolombian culture, the project was very interesting because I talked with people from that culture and they explain to my wow is their culture, their language and their traditions.
Besides the class going abroad was an amazing experience. The opportunity of studying abroad is one of the best decisions I could have made. I learned many things, I interact with other people, I met another culture and especially I experienced another educational system.

Fall 2019

Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid Spain
For fall semester of 2019 I decided to study in Spain. I took 12 units at the University of Rey Juan Carlos in Madrid Spain.
I took a Phonics and Phonology class with Dr. Carolina Martin Gallego, one of the best teachers and professional that I've ever met. In this class I had the opportunity to learn a lot about sounds. I learned about phonics, the kind of sounds that exist in Spanish and about transcription. This class has been one of the hardest I've ever taken along my Major, but it's also one of the ones I've learned the most. I was lucky enough to take two classes with the same teacher and the other class I took with her was Cognitive and Linguistic Development. In this class I learned more than anything how children acquire language. We also saw phonics themes focusing on sounds. We also saw the process through which the child's brain goes through in order to learned how to communicate. This class was also very interesting.
Another class I took was School Organization with Dr. Maria Turiel, a very kind and understanding teacher. This class was very interesting because it allowed me to learn a little more about education in Spain. I learned about the laws they have had throughout history, how their schools work, which is the most important thing for institutions and what kind of institutions they have.
The last class I had was Modern Language 1, the language studied in this class was French. In this class we study the most basic things. For example, presentations, places, numbers, nationalities… It was a fun class. The teacher was French what made the class a little easier and better. This class was a good introduction to French.
